8A: Solving the Problem

Opportunity: The opportunity is reducing the amount of plastic that people use everyday. There are many alternatives to plastic such as glass water bottles, metal straws, glass food storage, steel cutlery, cloth produce bags, metal hangers, and dryer balls. I think there is a huge opportunity to reduce plastic use and it starts with a single person.

Service: I want to create an organization on college campuses that will educate people about the alternatives to plastic. The organization will promote alternatives to plastic and hand out free metal straws for people to reuse. I think direct marketing to people is the smartest way to get people to try to reduce their plastic use one step at a time. This club could even sell glass water bottles with a UF logo on it and reusable produce bags with a UF logo. The club could have a social media page to bring awareness to more college students. I feel like college students are the ones who are willing to make a change in this world.

  1. I am sure that with work and perseverance, this project can become a reality. I know this is only the first "sample" of your idea but If I was you I would even involve local political parties and student government into this project. I know that many people involved in all kind of environmental organizations will be more than happy to join your cause. There is a great potential in this project and I hope you will be able to achieve a great result from our UF community.
