Who: The person who falls outside of the boundary would be people who use alternatives to plastic already. These people became educated about the negative impact of using plastic on the environment and therefore wanted to try alternatives.
What: If you use less plastic, there is less of a need for using alternatives to plastic. Alternatives to plastic include products such as bar soap/ shampoo, skin care in glass containers, metal straws, and reusable water bottles. If you use less plastic, people will be drawn to you and want to talk to you and learn more about why you choose to not use plastic.
Why: People who are inside the boundary, such as people not using alternatives to plastic, are different from the people outside of the boundary. People who are inside the boundary have a need of using alternatives to plastic. People who are outside of the boundary, already use plastic alternatives or avoid using plastic in general.
Inside the Boundary:
- Who is in: People not using alternatives to plastic
- What the need is: an alternative to plastic
- Why the need exists: to decrease the impact of plastic's effect on Earth
Outside the Boundary:
- Who is not: People already using alternatives to plastic or people who avoid using plastic
- What the need is not: not getting rid of plastic and not having an alternative to plastic
- Alternative Explanations: Just because someone is already educated and uses alternatives to plastic to care enough about our world, does not mean that they would not be interested in the club.
It is great to see that your project is making progress. You handled the exercise of "Inside/Outside" the boundary very well. I believe that this was a challenging exercise, especially since it's the first time we have to think about the type of people who will not buy our product. Sometimes it is hard to admit that not everyone will fall for our product. After all being objective is the only way to keep the the dream alive!
ReplyDeleteHi!
ReplyDeleteI like the environmental aspect to your business idea. I agree that we should all be more aware of how much plastic we use on a daily basis. You were able to outline the people who would benefit the most from your idea (i.e. people who do not use alternatives to plastic), but you also stated that everyone could benefit from your club. Thanks for sharing your progress on your opportunity!
Hi Monica, after reading your post I realized that I use much more plastic than is probably necessary and would probably be a part of your target audience. I care a lot about the environment but often use plastic as a convenience. I agree with your explanation that there is not a need to completely get rid of plastic because the material is still useful for many types of projects, but its uses can be limited. Overall, I feel that there is great opportunity with this need!
